Should You Become a Female Entrepreneur?

This is an exciting time to become an entrepreneur. Although the economy has been teetering for awhile now, it is coming back. This doesn't mean that being an employee is any better. There are still so many people out of work that employers can take their pick out of a large pool.
Many women are taking a different route. Tired of feeling unfulfilled in the workplace, they are taking matters into their own hands and starting their own businesses.
If you are a woman with experience and wonder if you could do a better job than your current boss, why not start your own company? You have learned from watching the boss what makes a company good and also things that you would definitely not do in your own business.
How would you begin? You will need to decide what kind of venture you want to pursue.
Will it be a brick and mortar business? If you are planning to sell to people in person, you probably need a storefront. This is often the most expensive business to start. Of course you need a space to either rent or buy. You will likely need to purchase inventory, equipment and perhaps hire staff. There are the costs of utilities, insurance, oh the list goes on.
A home-based business is far less pricy to get going. Since you already live somewhere your costs will be minimal. If you plan to sell products, however you will need to have a place to store them unless you make arrangements with manufacturers to ship directly to your customers. While this is handy, it can cause delays and eat into your profits.
Home-based businesses that offer services can be even less costly. If you meet clients somewhere other than at an office you can avoid paying rent or buying a space. If you are an interior designer, for example, you can meet at the client's home or office. If you are a landscaper, you will want to go to the property to see what needs to be done.
Perhaps you will offer information services. Then you will likely do most of your communicating with your clients either on the phone or by e-mail.
Many people choose to create online businesses. These can offer either products or services. Products can be sold on an eCommerce website and services can be offered on conventional websites or blogs.
Do any of these kinds of businesses appeal to you? If so, you are ready to move on to deciding what you will offer. I will write about that next.
